The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that a child’s first dental visit occur after they get their first tooth or after their first birthday to establish a dental home. We want to be your child’s dental home and to help your family establish lifelong good habits for healthy mouths.

Our team will identify and discuss any risk factors that can predispose your child to dental decay, such as diet or family history of decay.

Through anticipatory guidance, our team will educate you and your child about dental growth milestones. We want you to know what to expect at each stage of development from teething through the transition into permanent teeth.

Our preventative services include

  • routine check-ups
  • cleanings
  • dental x-rays
  • fluoride treatments
  • sealants
  • diet analysis
  • cavity risk assessments

Therapeutic Dentistry

If a child gets a cavity, Dr. Wong makes it her mission to provide a safe and comfortable experience. Her team takes the time to explain the tools and procedures in an age-appropriate manner to help alleviate any fear or anxiety. If the Tell-Show-Do method is not enough for the patient, other treatment modalities are available.

General Anesthesia

In some certain circumstances, a child has extensive dental needs and is unable to cooperate or tolerate dental treatment in the office. Under such circumstances, comprehensive dental treatment under general anesthesia may be presented as the way to go. Dr. Wong has priviledges at a Surgery center for such cases. General anesthesia at the surgery center is a safe and alternative way deliver dental treatment in those situations where a child can not or will not cooperate.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous Oxide (also known as laughing gas) may be recommended as necessary to complete your child’s dental treatment. Nitrous oxide is a safe gas that the patient inhales during the length of the procedure to relax and reduce anxiety. The patient is completely awake and aware of what is happening during the procedure.

Sedation Dentistry

Sedation is only recommended in certain situations when we cannot deliver dental treatment in a safe and effective manner with an awake patient. Our main concern is the child’s health and well-being at all times. If this option is recommended, our team will take the time to address all questions and concerns beforehand.

Our pediatric dental team offers comprehensive dental care for children of all ages, abilities, and needs. For questions, concerns, or to schedule a dentist appointment for your child, ;contact Southern Charm Pediatric Dentistry in Indian Land today!

What is SDF?

Silver Diamine Fluoride, SDF, is a cavity fighting liquid. It is an alternative treatment for some tooth decay lesions, and especially in younger children. SDF is an alternative to treating active decay with the goal to “stop” the cavity from getting. SDF is a non-invasive procedure. In most cases, the child accepts the process without the need for moderate sedations. The side effect of SDF is the black discoloration of the decayed area. Healthy tooth structures will remain white. Another point to consider is that it is not a cure for cavities. Due to the topical application of the medicine, we need to apply it multiple times for it to be effective. Please contact our office for a more in-depth discussion on whether your child’s lesions are a candidate for SDF.
